We never get to stay as long as we want in Honolulu, so parking ourselves in a hotel right on a beach saves us the precious time it takes to get to the beach from our room. My favorite place to stay is at the Aqua Waikiki Marina. It has a very residential feel to it. Not too touristy. A few steps away are McDonalds, Subway, Outback Steak House, Red Lobster, and the all important ABC store. Its in Ala Moana, which is on the less busy side of Waikiki, wedged between Waikiki Beach and Ala Moana Beach, overlooking Waikiki Yacht Club. That lets you enjoy the restaurants and bars in Waikiki and gigantic Ala Moana Center Mall and family atmosphere in Ala Moana.
